HUNTINGTON BEACH : Funding Available for Community Projects
Applications are available to community organizations for 1996-97 federal grant money for community projects and programs.
The city allocates Community Development Block Grant money each year. Eligible programs benefit low- and moderate-income people, eliminate blight or meet an urgent community need.
Under federal guidelines, the city must allocate up to 20% of the money for administration, 65% for projects and programs and 15% for public services.
“Over the years, [block grant] funds have allowed Huntington Beach to provide community services and public improvements that Huntington Beach simply wouldn’t be able to afford otherwise,” Mayor Victor Leipzig said.
For 1995-96, the city received $1.8 million in federal grant money. It has not been determined how much money the city will get for 1996-97, city officials said.
Applications are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays in the Economic Development Department at City Hall, 2000 Main St. Application deadline is Oct. 6.
