OUTLOOK

The Artists have gotten progressively better since ending a 17-game losing streak in 1993--and are hopeful of making the playoffs, although looking beyond third place would probably be a stretch; the last time they won more than two games was in 1987, when they went 10-2 and won the league title. Good news: five losses last year were by seven points or fewer. “Being competitive was our next step,” Roche said. “Now, we’re trying to win games.” Going a long way toward that goal will be the experience of the offensive linemen--Moore, Wedmore, Weenig and Cullins. Weenig should lead a defense that must perform better than last year, but will be stronger fundamentally and much more physical than in the past. Bohn, who can score from within 45 yards, could get a lot of work.
