Program to Target High-Risk Children
The El Concilio del Condado de Ventura Youth Services Program recently received a $125,000 block grant to fund a one-year program targeting high-risk children.
The program will begin Sept. 25 with a seven-day course in Big Bear. Sixty children will spend the week camping with counselors. After the trip, each youth will be assigned an adult mentor who helps the youth throughout the year.
The goal is to end the children’s involvement with gangs, truancy, drugs and pregnancy.
El Concilio needs volunteers to help with the mentoring program. For information, call 983-2336.
