Two Norwalk residents were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of armed robbery and assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon after a chase in which police fired at their car.
Arthur Albert Duran, 30, and Josephine Contreras, 31, were taken into custody when their Honda Accord crashed into a parked car at Brookhurst Street and Orangethorpe Avenue, Buena Park Lt. Robert Chaney said.
The pair allegedly robbed a Lucky market at 6931 La Palma Ave. about 7:45 p.m. and fled in their car as officers arrived. Police chased the pair onto the Riverside Freeway and then onto the southbound Santa Ana Freeway, Chaney said.
The car exited at Brookhurst Street and spun out of control. When an officer approached the car, one of the suspects pointed a short-barreled shotgun at him, Chaney said. The officer fired, striking the car, and the suspects took off again, crashing a short distance away, Chaney said.
One of the suspects was treated at a local hospital for cuts, he said.
