Van Nuys : High School Seniors Offered College Credit

Valley College has launched a new program in which high school seniors can get credits for courses designed to prepare them for college.

The four courses teach reading and writing skills, elementary algebra, personal finance and career planning. The program, designed to encourage high school students to go on to college, begins Monday.

The Afternoon College program offers free tuition, supplies, textbooks, parking and tutoring. It features field trips to area four-year colleges, such as Cal State Northridge and UCLA.

To enroll, seniors must attend the first class meetings of the courses.

Beginning next week, the reading and writing skills course meets from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursdays in the Humanities Building, Room 111.

Elementary algebra meets from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in the Math/Science Building, Room 101.

Personal finance meets from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays in the Business/Journalism Building, Room 106.

Career planning meets from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays in the Foreign Languages Building, Room 100.
