Health Issue Used for Tax-and-Spend
* Regarding “Uninsured a Growing Burden for the County,” it is not accurate to say that one “cannot afford a health insurance premium despite working full time” without discussion of what that person makes and what the premium would be. I suspect that advocates of increased government benefits such as county Health Director Pierre Durand long for the opportunity to expand their prospective clients to 100% of the population.
Any working person can afford catastrophic insurance coverage. Their choice not to has a lot to do with the availability of county programs that provide treatment without regard to financial responsibility.
This is an example of an emotional issue being used by a public entity hoping for higher taxation and a newspaper rising to the bait.
