HOLY PALOOZA! With the raging success of the Lollapalooza alternative rock tour, the staff at the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace figured it a natural to call Saturday’s opening bash for their upcoming exhibit on music at the White House “Nixonpalooza.” Problem is, the Lollapalooza people didn’t find it that catchy. . . . After hearing from a Lollapalooza attorney, the Nixon library in Yorba Linda has asked local media to cease using the “Nixonpalooza” slogan. . . . “We got our hands slapped,” says a spokeswoman.

PETAL PUSHERS: The highly popular Saturday Farmers Market in Laguna Beach will get a new home soon (B2). But that’s not the only change. You can still buy fruits and vegetables--but no more flowers. . . . Local florists have lobbied the city to eliminate the flower competition the market created. Florist Kevin Summey says the Farmers Market has cut his business 40% since it opened in May. “I see no reason why there cannot be a farmers market without flowers,” says Summey. . . . The market moves to a city-owned lot in November.

NEW THUNDER: Local blues fans should be thrilled for Anaheim musician David (Kid) Ramos: He’s the new lead guitarist for the Fabulous Thunderbirds. . . . Ramos has taken over the spot in the veteran Austin, Tex., blues and R&B; band once held by such celebrated players as Jimmie Vaughan and Duke Robillard. . . . But Ramos, formerly with the local James Harman Band, says he feels right at home: “The challenge is I want people to forget all the other guitar players who used to be in the band.”

LADY LIGHTERS: Anti-smokers will bristle a little, but there’s a fund-raiser for child-abuse causes tonight at South Coast Plaza’s Alfred Dunhill of London that will fill the store with smoke. It’s a ladies-only Cigar Smoking & Cognac Tasting--$25 per person. But you can’t get in--it’s already sold out all 45 spots. . . . Cigar smoking for women, says spokeswoman Liz Polo, is “the hottest trend sweeping the nation.”
