Mike Thomas completed a 35-yard touchdown pass to Octavus Barnes with 14 seconds left and North Carolina overcame five fumbles to defeat Louisville, 17-10, Thursday night.

On third and 15, Thomas connected with Barnes racing past cornerback Tony Bethel toward the left side of the end zone for the game-winning score that sent Louisville (2-2) to its second straight defeat.

North Carolina (1-2) got the ball at its own 45 with 1:01 to go. Thomas then completed an 11-yard pass to Barnes to the Louisville 44, and after an incompletion, connected on a 14-yard pass to Marcus Wall.

After two more incomplete passes and an illegal procedure call that put the ball on the 35, Thomas found Barnes for the winning touchdown.

Thomas completed 14 of 29 passes for 293 yards, and Barnes caught seven for 158.

North Carolina struggled on offense, but its dominating defense yielded only five first downs and 159 yards.
