Funeral Services Set for Sheriff’s Special Officer
Funeral services for a sheriff’s special officer who collapsed and died after a baton training class will take place today, authorities said.
Gary Lofgren, 33, of Anaheim was resting with other students outside the Sheriff’s Training Academy last week when he fell over, Sheriff’s Lt. Ron Wilkerson said.
Lofgren was taken to Garden Grove Hospital and Medical Center, where he died, Wilkerson said. The cause of death is unknown, pending further tests by the coroner’s office, he said.
The special officer, who joined the department in May, is survived by his wife, Carmen, and four children ages 3 to 14, Wilkerson said.
Services will be at 11 a.m. at San Antonio Catholic Church, 5800 E. Santa Ana Canyon Road in Anaheim. Lofgren will be buried at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, 7845 E. Santiago Canyon Road in Orange.
