Police Fatally Shoots Man Who Allegedly Attacked Them

A man was shot and killed by officers near Watts on Thursday night when he tried to attack one of them with a large, nail-studded board, Los Angeles police said.

Police said the man had advanced on officers with the board and refused warnings to stop when an officer opened fire, killing him instantly, Cmdr. Tim McBride said.

The officer took “two or three shots,” McBride said. He described the man’s weapon as a board four feet long studded with 15 nails.

The incident occurred on a sidewalk near 90th and Main streets after police received a call that three brothers had been arguing among themselves, McBride said.

The dead man’s identity and age was not immediately available, McBride said.
