Owens Scores Three Times in Brea Romp
Jerome Owens scored three first-half touchdowns as Brea Olinda overwhelmed Katella, 42-7, Thursday in a nonleague game at Glover Stadium.
Katella (0-4) turned the ball over on its first four possessions and the Wildcats (4-0) turned each into scores.
Owens opened the scoring with a 10-yard run set up by Rasuli Webster’s interception. After Eric Albrecht recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, Owens added a three-yard touchdown run.
Owens, a senior, made it 21-0 with 9 minutes 57 seconds left in the first half, taking a screen pass from Matt Kalcevich and going 35 yards for a touchdown.
Mike Beamer’s eight-yard run gave Brea a 28-0 lead at halftime.
Things didn’t get much better for Katella in the second half as Beamer intercepted a John Baldridge pass on the first play. Kalcevich connected with Matt Lucht on a three-yard pass to make it 35-0.
Webster scored Brea’s last touchdown, recovering a bad snap on a punt and returning it 23 yards with 11:47 left to play.
Katella scored its first touchdown of the season after recovering a Wildcat fumble. Baldridge connected with Josh Welton on a 28-yard pass with 7:25 left.
Owens finished with 62 yards in 11 carries. Welton led Katella with three catches for 73 yards.
