Clippers, Counting on Rookie Barry, Won’t Sign Seven-Year Veteran Grant

The Clippers on Friday renounced their rights to guard Gary Grant, who was seeking a $10-million, five-year deal.

A seven-year veteran with the Clippers, Grant, 30, played in a career-low 33 games last season because of knee and back injuries.

Grant had said that he hoped to end his career with the Clippers but he became expendable when the Clippers acquired Oregon State guard Brent Barry in a draft-day trade with the Denver Nuggets.

Barry, who played shooting guard in college, will be converted to point guard.
