Birds of a Feather--Join a flock of Sea & Sage Audubon members and non-members Saturday morning for a birding field trip to Featherly Regional Park in Yorba Linda.

The parkland is known for its flat terrain covered with cottonwoods and willows, which attract warblers. Additionally, the Santa Ana River, which flows through the park, is home to a variety of waterfowl.

Birders can anticipate spotting downy woodpeckers, California quail, white-tailed kites and least Bell’s vireos. Waterfowl include ruddy ducks, black-necked stilts and willets. A variety of songbirds can be found throughout the park as well.

The three-mile walk will be relatively level with some sandy portions. This hike will explore the undeveloped and less traversed region of the park. Please note that there are no drinking fountains or bathroom facilities in this area.

Participants should bring their own canteen or water bottle. For additional comfort, bring sunscreen and a hat, and wear sturdy shoes.

Birders may also want to bring binoculars, bird identification book and a log to record sightings. If you bring a camera, please carry film in a tote bag. Littering, accidental or otherwise, can cause irreparable harm to the environment.

To get to the birding site, drive east from Anaheim on the Riverside Freeway to Gypsum Canyon Road. Take a left, heading north over the bridge. Then turn right on La Palma Avenue. Park immediately on the south side of La Palma Avenue. The trek is expected to last until 1 p.m.
