No Nonprofit Funds Have Gone for Recall
* The Sept. 21 article, “Public Funding Suspected in Recall Drive,” stated that Trustee Wendy Larner of the Ventura County Board of Education has made allegations that lesbian, gay and HIV/AIDS groups are channeling state and federal monies to recall her.
While I am certain most of us in both the lesbian-gay and HIV-affected communities are eagerly waiting for Larner to be booted from her seat of authority, I must state that there has been no channeling of funds from any nonprofit group, which the law prohibits.
AIDS Care, Metropolitan Community Church, the Gay and Lesbian Community Center, Christopher House, Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, and the raft of other nonprofit agencies have enough work to do in our community to take care of our own without Larner’s wildly inaccurate and hateful allegations.
It is this gross abuse of power in using the title she holds to destroy our community. That is one of the primary reasons she is being recalled in the first place. She had better check her facts next time before firing off letters to the governor.
