COLLEGE FOOTBALL : Illini Fights Back With Defense to Down Indiana

The Illinois defense came to the rescue again.

The Illini forced four turnovers and turned two of them into touchdowns on passes by Scott Weaver in a 17-10 Big Ten victory Saturday over Indiana.

Weaver, making his first start of the season, passed 25 yards to George McDonald for the first touchdown after an Indiana fumble in the second quarter and 14 yards to Ty Douthard for the second touchdown after an interception by Dennis Stallings in the third.

Illinois, 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Big Ten, has forced 18 turnovers this season and has converted nine of them into 48 points.

Weaver, who was 16 for 28 for 213 yards, started in place of Johnny Johnson, who was benchedfor unspecified disciplinary reasons. The Hoosiers are 2-3, 0-2.
