La Jolla’s Harper Wins USTA 65 Singles Title

Liz Harper of La Jolla defeated Fresno’s Elaine Mason, 7-5, 6-0, on Saturday to win the 65 singles title of the USTA Senior Women’s Hardcourt tennis tournament at the Newport Beach Tennis Club.

Gloria Quintana of Placitas, N.M., finished third, defeating June Gay of Piedmont, 7-5, 6-2.

Dodo Cheney, also of La Jolla, won the 75 singles title, defeating Cathedral City’s Lucy Dettmer, 6-0, 6-3.

Charlotte Decker of Laguna Hills finished third, defeating Alice Beckenbach of Los Angeles, 6-4, 6-1.
