Valleywide : Trust Fund Created After Officer’s Death
A trust fund has been established for the family of a California Highway Patrol officer who died last week of injuries suffered in an accident caused by an alleged drunk driver Sept. 26.
Bruce Thomas Hinman, an eight-year veteran of the CHP, was pinned under a stalled car at the junction of the Hollywood and Ventura freeways after it was struck by Ramiro Palma Rodriguez, authorities said. Rodriguez was jailed on charges of murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Hinman lingered in a coma for more than a week before he was removed from life-support equipment on Oct. 3.
The 35-year-old Palmdale resident left a wife, Kimberlee, a 9-year-old son, Cory, and twin 5-year-old sons, Mitchell and Morgan. He was buried Friday at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth.
According to Sgt. Ernie Garcia, public affairs coordinator with the CHP’s Southern Division headquarters in Glendale, the trust fund will benefit Hinman’s children. It was created after the agency received a large number of inquiries from people offering to help, he said.
Donations to the Officer Bruce T. Hinman Memorial Fund may be made to the attention of Barbara Williamson, in care of Simi Valley Bank, 1475 Los Angeles Ave., Simi Valley 93065.
