A 17-year-old boy remained in stable condition Tuesday after a man slashed his neck with a broken beer bottle at a party Friday night in Lake Forest, officials said.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Dwaine Garrido, 21, of Lake Forest on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly attacked the teen-ager outside a house party in the 21000 block of Paseo Verdura, Sheriff’s Lt. Ron Wilkerson said.

The victim, who is from Rancho Santa Margarita, had arrived at the party with about 15 other teens just after 10 p.m. when he encountered a crowd of people, including Garrido, in front of the house, officials said.

“They were stopped by Garrido and others, and some sort of discussion occurred,” Wilkerson said.

When the teen turned to leave with his friends, Garrido allegedly broke a beer bottle and stabbed him in the back of the neck, chipping the victim’s vertebrae, Wilkerson said. Garrido allegedly left the scene but was quickly located after witnesses described him to authorities, sheriff’s officials said.

He was found walking alone near El Toro Road and Toledo Way. He was arrested and was booked at Orange County Jail on $250,000 bail.

The victim was taken to Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, where he is expected to recover, Wilkerson said.
