A teen-ager in a stolen van led police on a chase through four cities Wednesday afternoon that ended at La Quinta High School’s parking lot, where the driver slammed into a trash bin and injured a 75-year-old man next to it, authorities said.

William David Seehusen, 18, of Garden Grove, was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen vehicle and evading arrest.

About 3 p.m., two police investigators saw a suspicious van at Hortense Drive and McFadden Avenue and checked the license plate, Police Lt. Richard Main said. The van had been reported stolen in Irvine, authorities said.

With police chasing him, the driver weaved through residential neighborhoods in Westminster, Santa Ana, Garden Grove and Fountain Valley at 40 to 50 m.p.h., police said. The chase ended at La Quinta High.

He drove through the school parking lot, where he struck the trash bin and a man standing next to it, Main said. “He then left the car and started running.”

The injured man, Khuong Van Nguyen of Westminster, was reported in stable condition with head injuries at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
