Marriott Evacuated as Dryer Fire Fills Hotel With Smoke
A fire that started in the laundry room of the Marriott Suites Costa Mesa on Wednesday prompted firefighters to evacuate about 200 employees and guests but caused no injuries, authorities said.
About 6:30 p.m, a clothes dryer in the hotel’s basement caught fire, sending smoke throughout the 11-story building in the 500 block of Anton Boulevard, Costa Mesa Fire Battalion Chief Ken Soltis said.
Although the fire was controlled in minutes, Soltis said, the building had to be evacuated while authorities cleared the smoke, he said.
