Hrudey Might Test Ankle in Phoenix

Kelly Hrudey, injured King goaltender, is leaning toward accepting a brief conditioning assignment later this month to Phoenix, which would be his first appearance in the minor leagues since 1983.

“I’m going to consider the options, but it’s is more than likely I’ll play two games with Phoenix next weekend [Oct. 20-21],” said Hrudey, who suffered a sprained left ankle in early September. “I have to see where I’m at. I haven’t been in a game in over six months. I just want to make sure. I don’t want to go down there and be bored. I know the International League is a good league. It’s a real situation.”

Larry Robinson, King coach, said: “My feeling is he’s got to get some game conditions.”

Defenseman Philippe Boucher received a shot of cortisone Monday for his injured right wrist. He is suffering from tendinitis and could need arthroscopic surgery if the situation doesn’t improve, Robinson said.
