Kevin Feterik played catch Thursday, leisurely tossing passes to Tony Hartley. It seemed that easy for Los Alamitos.

The Griffins opened Sunset League play with a performance that looked interchangeable with their previous games. The 35-12 victory over Edison at Veterans Stadium would be impressive for most teams, but it was just another evening for Los Alamitos, which has won 38 consecutive regular-season games.

The Griffins (6-0, 1-0), Orange County’s No. 1 ranked team, just had a typical game.

There were big plays on offense. Stan Guyness caught a 47-yard touchdown pass on the Griffins’ second play. Ryan Gragnano blew through a huge hole for a 51-yard touchdown run on the next possession.

There were big plays on defense. Mike Martinez recovered a fumble to kill one Edison drive on the Griffin 28. Ife Ohalete intercepted a pass to end another on the Los Alamitos 18.

There was even a semblance of a running game. Gragnano gained 145 yards, more than doubling his season total through the first five games.

“When it’s going like that, everyone gets into it,” Feterik said. “The offensive line blocks a little better. The receivers make great catches. It feels really good.”

And there was Feterik to Hartley. In the odd moment the offense seemed bogged down, those two played catch.

Feterik completed 15 of 18 passes for 221 yards and three touchdowns. Hartley caught 12 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns.

“Kevin and I have been playing together a long time,” Hartley said. “We know what each other is thinking. We know what each other is going to do.”

Be it subliminal communication or choreographed script, the two seemed oblivious to any defensive effort by the Chargers (4-2, 0-1).

The only thing that slowed them down was a clipping penalty, which nullified a 44-yard touchdown pass. Feterik responded by hitting Hartley three times on a 53-yard touchdown drive, the last being an 18-yard touchdown pass to give the Griffins a 21-0 lead. Hartley also caught a six-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter for a 28-6 lead.

This could hardly be a surprise to the Chargers. A year ago, they appeared to have the Griffins’ unbeaten streak stopped 41. But Feterik hit Hartley for a touchdown in the final seconds for a 15-12 victory.

This year, the two showed off in a less stressful fashion.

Feterik was eight of eight for 123 yards by halftime and the Griffins led, 21-6.
