City Council meeting
What: The council will conduct a public hearing concerning a proposal to remove overhead utility wires and place them underground in three areas of the city. The work would take place on Katella Avenue between Haster Street and 9th Street, on La Palma Avenue between Kraemer Place and Grove Street, and on Lincoln Avenue between Brookhurst Street and Loara Street.
The council also will discuss a high-tech career center that will provide employers and dislocated workers with information on job availability, social service programs and training programs.

What: The City Council will discuss whether to fund First Night Fullerton, the city’s downtown New Year’s Eve party that attracts thousands annually.

Planning Commission meeting
What: The commission will consider a conditional-use permit for a restaurant with a bar, billiards tables and a dance floor at 28471 Marguerite Parkway in the Heritage Square shopping center. Called Maya’s Place, the restaurant would be the latest in a string of attempts to run a successful eatery in the location.

City Council meeting
What: Council members are scheduled to vote on the Thunderbird club’s operating permit. The council will also hear testimony and later vote on whether to establish business improvement districts in Corona del Mar and on Balboa Island’s Marine Avenue.
