Goldberg to Head Mercury Records, Sources Say: Former Warner Music executive Danny Goldberg is reportedly about to resurface next month at PolyGram as president of New York-based Mercury Records, home to such acts as Bon Jovi, Vanessa Williams and Joan Osborne. Goldberg, who was recently pressured to leave Time Warner Inc.’s music division following a yearlong corporate battle, had been wooed by Sony Music and MCA’s Rising Tide Entertainment with offers to launch a joint venture label. Sources said Goldberg will replace current President Ed Eckstein, who is expected to be given his own PolyGram-affiliated firm.
