LOS ALAMITOS : My Debut Wins Invitational, Schvaneveldt Gets a Sweep
My Debut took another huge jump up in class when he won the $125,000 Los Alamitos Invitational Championship on Friday night, earning the last automatic berth to the Champion of Champions.
My Debut, a 4-year-old Texas-bred gelding, was undefeated in his three Los Alamitos starts prior to the championship, including the Lakeside Overnight Handicap and the Grade III Chicado V Handicap.
Ridden by Roman Figueroa, My Debut broke with the leaders and ran a powerful race to win the Grade I race by a head over Seals.
My Debut, who is trained by Blane Schvaneveldt, covered the 440 yards in 21.68 seconds. He paid $9.00 to win, $4.40 to place and $3.60 to show. Schvaneveldt trained the first three finishers, as he also saddled Seals and third-placed Refrigerator.
