* Various artists, “In From the Storm,” RCA Victor. This attempt to honor Jimi Hendrix’s spirit by placing his songs in a symphonic context is a ghastly mishmash. The London Metropolitan Orchestra clutters up the arrangements and the all-star cast from the metal, rock, funk, jazz fusion and alternative camps alternates between listless and tasteless. Only “Drifting” and “Bold as Love,” with Steve Vai’s guitar and vocals by Corey Glover and Paul Rodgers, are even listenable.
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor) to four (excellent).
