2 Cars Crash in Teen Driving Game

Two carloads of teen-agers “playing bumper pool” ended up smashing into a telephone pole and the wall of a building when they skidded off Chatsworth Street Friday, police said.

The drivers of the cars and three passengers were taken to local hospitals, and two others, including a 6-year-old boy, were treated at the scene of the 3:20 p.m. accident, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis said. But Los Angeles police described all injuries as minor.

The two cars were racing west on Chatsworth Drive, banging into one another because insults had been exchanged, when they skidded off the road at the point where Chatsworth Drive curves and merges with Chatsworth Street, LAPD Officer Mark Snyder said. Once on the road’s shoulder they “played bumper pool” before slamming into the pole and wall near Burnet Avenue, Snyder said.

Snyder said reckless driving charges will be filed against the 18-year-old drivers, who police did not immediately identify.
