Cal Lutheran Offense Posts Zeros in Loss

After scoring 80 points in its last two games, the Cal Lutheran offense came to a sputtering halt Saturday night as the Kingsmen were shut out by Pomona-Pitzer, 9-0, in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Pomona College.

Cal Lutheran (3-3-1, 3-1 in conference play) had its three-game conference winning streak snapped, thanks in part to seven turnovers.

Kingsmen quarterback Ryan Huisenga threw five interceptions and completed only five of 17 passes for 63 yards.

Pomona-Pitzer (5-3, 3-2) scored all of its points on field goals by James Regan.

Regan hit a 32-yard kick with 5 minutes 45 seconds left in the second quarter, added a 37-yard field goal in the third quarter and made a 27-yard try 1:41 into the fourth quarter.

The Sagehens controlled the ball for nearly 40 minutes, running 82 plays for 348 yards. Tommy Lowery rushed for 140 yards in 35 carries.

Cal Lutheran running back Fredrik Nanhed supplied his team with another solid effort, rushing for a game-high 156 yards in 23 attempts.

Nanhed has rushed for 1,044 yards in seven games.

Cal Lutheran suffered its first shutout since being blanked by Sonoma State in 1991.

With the victory, Pomona-Pitzer was assured its first winning season in 25 years.
