Westside : Fig Leaf Costume Wins a Police Escort

A Santa Monica College student’s scanty Halloween costume netted him a $200 first-place prize in a costume contest Tuesday, but also landed him a trip to the college police station.

Mike Krasovec, 20, decided to dress--or not dress--as the biblical Adam for the Santa Monica College Vegetarian Club’s Halloween costume contest. Wearing little more than several fig leaves, Krasovec was in the process of competing against a faux Pope, Ronald Reagan and Pippi Longstocking when the police showed up and handcuffed him.

At the station, the officers told him there were certain moral codes and standards of conduct that must be followed, Krasovec said.

“We had received several calls about a naked man running through campus,” said Santa Monica College Police Chief Eileen Miller. “When we found him, he was wearing something smaller than a G-string and his buttocks were exposed. We took him to the station to check if he was a student. He was, so we made him put some clothes on and leave the campus. He was not arrested.”

By popular acclaim, Krasovec, a third-year Santa Monica College student, won the first place prize of $200 in absentia.
