Westside : Halloween Revelers Were Well-Behaved

Although almost 100,000 Halloween revelers flocked into West Hollywood and Hollywood Tuesday night, most were well-behaved and there were few arrests, police reported.

An estimated 70,000 celebrants converged on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood watching or taking part in the annual parade, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Brad Welker. The crowd was slightly smaller than last year, probably because of the threat of rain, he added.

Deputies said they made only one arrest, charging a woman with possession of narcotics.

Farther east in Hollywood, crowds estimated at 25,000 to 30,000 walked along Hollywood Boulevard between La Brea Avenue and Gower Street, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Corina Hees. She said there had been several arrests over the evening, but the exact numbers had not been tallied.

“This was our best year. There was a great deal of cooperation between citizens and police, and everyone seemed to have a good time,” she said.
