Chris Tilden of Riverside Poly, a two-meter man on the water polo team, set the school record for goals in a season with 115. The rest of the team has combined to score 145. The old record was 104 by Scott Thornton in 1979. . . . Palm Desert football Coach Pat Blackburn was ejected from his team’s 40-18 victory over Calexico because his team was penalized twice for equipment violations. Three of his players were not wearing tail pads. The first violation is a 15-yard penalty and the second is the yardage and the ejection of the coach. . . . Indio’s Josh Salas, a junior running back, has scored four touchdowns on special teams in seven games. He scored on kickoff returns of 90 and 60 yards, a punt return of 72 yards and he recovered a blocked punt in the end zone. He has nine touchdowns overall. . . . The Bundy Canyon Christian and Cal Lutheran homecoming football games ended at halftime because of the Metro League’s (eight-man) 45-point mercy rule. Cal Lutheran beat Claremont, 50-0, but Bundy Canyon lost to Riverside Christian, 49-0.
