Officers, Suspects Injured in Motorcycle Chase

Two undercover Glendale police officers were injured while chasing suspects fleeing by motorcycle Thursday afternoon, police said.

The officers were in a parked, unmarked car at Chevy Chase Drive and Perlita Avenue about 4:50 p.m. when they noticed a motorcycle speeding along Perlita, exceeding the 25-m.p.h. speed limit, said Glendale Police Department spokesman Chahe Keuroghelian.

When the officers began to pursue the motorcycle, the riders went faster, he said. The officers turned on their lights and siren, but the motorcycle ran a red light before swerving out of control and crashing as the street turned direction, Keuroghelian said.

Residents crowded into the street to see if the two men on the motorcycle were injured, Keuroghelian said, and the officer driving the police car slammed his brakes and swerved into a parked car to avoid hitting the onlookers.

Both officers and suspects were taken to nearby hospitals with moderate injuries, Keuroghelian said.

The suspects’ reason for fleeing from the officers is unknown, he said.
