COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago Finishes Unbeaten

The Rancho Santiago men’s cross-country team completed an unbeaten regular season with a victory at the Orange Empire Conference meet Friday in Huntington Beach Central Park.
Riverside’s Bashir Hussain won the four-mile race in 19 minutes 57 seconds, but Rancho Santiago’s Jose Rangel (20:16) was second and teammate Franky Hernandez (20:32) third. The Dons took six of the first 10 places and won with 26 points. Riverside (46) was second and Orange Coast (84) third.
Charlotte Mayock of Riverside dominated the 5,000-meter women’s race, winning in 18:31. Elly Estrada of Rancho Santiago (18:31) was second.
Riverside won the team title with 40 points. Rancho Santiago (51) was second and Irvine Valley (91) third.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:
Cypress 1, Orange Coast 0--Israel Cedillo scored in the first minute of play to lead Cypress (6-6-3, 4-2-1). The victory keeps Cypress in the race for second place in conference. Orange Coast drops to 5-6-5, 4-2-3.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:
Orange Coast 3, Irvine Valley 2--Keri Lawson scored two goals and Jeni Hodges had one for OCC (10-1-2, 6-0), which scored all of its goals in the first half. Maria Nicholl and Karen Gray scored for Irvine Valley (7-8, 2-4).
In Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball:
Orange Coast 3, Cypress 0--Heather Daze had 19 kills and Amber Ambrose 10 for Orange Coast (10-6, 6-3), which won, 15-13, 15-13, 15-12.
