ORANGE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL / PREP EXTRA : San Clemente’s First Half Is Too Much for Dana Hills

Share

Dana Hills put on a great halftime show for its homecoming Friday. San Clemente, though, put on an even better first-half performance.

The Tritons riddled Dana Hills for 325 yards and six touchdowns in the first half to rout the Dolphins, 49-21, in front of 2,000 at Dana Hills High.

San Clemente (7-2, 3-1), ranked No. 5 in Orange County, scored the first five times it had the ball. The Tritons topped their season high for points (41) in 17 minutes against a Dana Hills defense that could not stop the Tritons’ passing combination of Chris Boden to Trevor Insley.

Boden completed 19 of 28 for 299 yards and three touchdowns, two going to Insley for 33 and 30 yards. Insley, who missed three games this year because of injury but is still fifth in the county in pass receptions, caught nine passes for 146 yards. Ryan Davis rushed for 92 yards, scoring on runs of one and three yards.

The lone bright spot for the Dolphins again was sophomore Julio Peraza, who became the first back this season to surpass 100 yards rushing against San Clemente’s defense. Peraza finished with 156 yards in 18 carries, scoring on runs of 61 and seven yards.

His first touchdown run at 8:44 of the first quarter brought Dana Hills to within one, 8-7. But the Tritons needed only five plays for Insley to score, then held Dana Hills to four net yards on its next two series.
