Three Edison running backs combined for 316 yards and five touchdowns as the Chargers kept their playoff hopes alive with a 42-19 Sunset League victory over Marina Friday at Westminster High.

The Chargers can get a share of third place with a victory at Esperanza Thursday, but will need either a loss by Fountain Valley or an at-large berth to get into the playoffs.

Alex Forero led the Chargers with 183 rushing yards and a touchdown despite not carrying the ball in the first quarter. Forero picked up 127 of his yards in the second half to help the Chargers (6-3, 2-2) protect their lead. Edison scored two touchdowns in the final five minutes.

Brodie Riederich added 83 yards and two touchdowns, while Vince Catani contributed touchdown runs of 17 and 34 yards.

Forero now has 1,128 rushing yards this season, and outgained Marina tailback Mike Williams.

Williams had a good night, scoring three touchdowns, giving him 15 on the season. He rushed for 161 yards, bringing his season total to a school-record 1,340 yards. Greg Karman rushed for 1,200 yards in 1979 to set the old standard.

Marina trailed, 21-7, at halftime, but cut it to 21-13 in the second half when Williams capped an 18-play drive with a three-yard touchdown run.
