A 48-year-old man getting groceries out of the back of his car suffered two broken legs and a broken pelvis Friday night when he was struck by a car on Alicia Parkway.

William T. Flynn of Mission Viejo was in stable condition Saturday after undergoing surgery at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, hospital officials said.

He was injured when a car being driven by a 17-year-old Dove Canyon girl veered from the slow lane at Jeronimo Lane. After hitting Flynn, it collided with an unoccupied parked car, said Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Paddock.

“She was preparing to make a lane change into the No. 2 lane,” Paddock said. “She looked over her shoulder to make sure the lane was clear and during the maneuver drifted to the right and struck Mr. Flynn.”

The driver, whose name was not released because she is a minor, was not injured in the accident and it is not known if she will be cited. The accident remains under investigation, authorities said.
