ORANGE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: PREP EXTRA : Fausto and Los Amigos Do Nearly Everything Right

Greg Fausto rushed for 173 yards and four touchdowns Friday, leading Los Amigos to a 51-13 victory over Bolsa Grande in the final game of the Garden Grove League season.

The Lobos (8-2, 5-1) won their sixth consecutive game with relative ease as they substituted freely throughout. They needed only two plays, a 35-yard pass from Jacob Sanchez to Shaun Tagatauli and a 25-yard run by Fausto, to reach the end zone on their first possession. A 41-yard run by Fausto set up his one-yard scoring run later in the quarter for a 20-0 lead.

Fausto accounted for 299 total yards on the night, catching four passes for 52 yards and returning punts and kickoffs. The 155-pound junior went for a first down or touchdown 12 of the 14 times he touched the ball; he pushed his season totals to 1,130 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.

Bolsa Grande (0-10, 0-6), which lost its 12th game in a row, took advantage of the liberal Lobo substitutions. The Matadors were sparked by a 75-yard Joey McMahan touchdown run and piled up 295 yards in total offense.

Los Amigos took advantage of three Bolsa turnovers, however, scoring on all three. Victor Mercado and Luis Renteria returned interceptions for touchdowns, and LaRue Carr returned a fumble for a score.

“We wanted to give everyone a chance to play, especially the seniors, and we got everybody in,” Lobo Coach Roger Takahashi said. Los Amigos enters the Southern Section Division VII playoffs as the second-place team from the Garden Grove League.
