Royal-Simi Valley Game Rescheduled for Today

The football game between Royal and Simi Valley highs has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. today at Simi Valley.

Originally set for Thursday night, the game was postponed because of a power outage at Moorpark College.

George Ragsdale, Simi Valley athletic director, said no admission will be charged.

Ridgecrest Burroughs has won the Golden League’s third and final playoff spot after a coin toss broke a three-way tie with Palmdale and Littlerock. All three were 2-3 in league play.

The suspension of Cleveland High receiver Alex Kalinowski was rescinded by the City Section on Thursday, which enabled the senior to play in the team’s 28-9 victory over El Camino Real.

Kalinowski was suspended for the season because of inflammatory messages written on his stomach in the game against Granada Hills which resulted in a brawl.

According to Kalinowski’s father, the suspension was lifted because videotape of the fight did not clearly show the writing on his son’s stomach.

Valley College defensive tackle Brett Nordyke was one of several players to earn Western State Conference honors.

Nordyke had 10 solo tackles, seven assists and two sacks in a 31-17 victory over Moorpark.

Glendale’s Ramone Archie was offensive player of the week with 190 yards and one touchdown in 27 carries in a 29-14 victory over Pierce.

Basketball

Derrick Higgins, one of Cal State Northridge’s top recruits and a likely starter this season, will not play in the Matadors’ intrasquad game at 11 a.m. today because he has aggravated an injury to his left foot.

Higgins, a 6-foot-3 forward from Los Angeles City College, might be able to play in the season opener, Nov. 25 at Nevada Las Vegas.

Cross-Country

The Thousand Oaks and Canyon highs girls’ teams, ranked second and first in the state Division I poll, are sixth and seventh in Harrier magazine’s West region poll.

Neither team is ranked in the magazine’s national top-25 poll, marking the first time since at least 1988 that no local team has been ranked.

Tennis

The starting time of Calabasas High’s Division II playoff match against Marborough has been changed to 10 a.m. today at Calabasas High.

Softball

The Santa Clarita Snipers 16-under team is holding tryouts Sunday from 12:30-5 p.m. at Hart High.
