Six people were injured and traffic on California 126 was backed up for hours Sunday after a teen-age driver struck another car head-on, authorities said.

The 4:08 p.m. accident occurred when Manuel Sanchez, 19, of Los Angeles tried to pass a car near San Martinez Grande Canyon Road just east of the Ventura-Los Angeles county line, the California Highway Patrol said.

Sanchez pulled onto the right-hand shoulder, lost control of the vehicle, veered back across the road and into oncoming traffic and struck a car head-on, the CHP said.

Three of his passengers--two children and one adult--were thrown from the car and were taken to hospitals in Los Angeles County. A fourth passenger was also taken to a hospital.

The driver of the second car, 66-year-old Beverly Lund of Lancaster, was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries, the CHP said.

Sanchez suffered minor injuries, authorities said.

The accident closed all lanes on the busy east-west corridor, backing up traffic as far as Piru. All lanes were open again at 7:13 p.m., officials said.
