The social program for teen-agers at the Santa Paula Boys & Girls Club has received a $10,000 grant from the Wood-Claeyssens Foundation of Santa Barbara.
The program, known as Club UNO (Ultimate Night Out), was formed in September in an attempt to keep teen-agers off the streets at night.
“We’re really excited,” said Diane Koranda, program director for the club. “With this grant, we will be able to run the program for a full year.”
The club was founded with a $23,000 federal grant administered through the city of Santa Paula. The grants allow the Boys & Girls Club to be open from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursdays and 7 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
The club offers a safe place where teen-agers can play video games or basketball, watch movies and participate in outdoor events such as hiking and camping.
