COSTA MESA : Street Extended for Auto Club Employees

Share

An extension of Susan Street in north Costa Mesa is set to open within two weeks.

City officials said that the street is being lengthened from Sunflower Avenue to South Coast Drive to accommodate employees of the Auto Club of Southern California.

The Auto Club is doubling the size of its complex in Costa Mesa, and the entrance for a new parking lot that is part of that project will be on the Susan Street extension.

City Manager Allan L. Roeder said that Auto Club officials agreed to pay for extension of the street as one of the conditions for expanding their offices farther into a bean field at Fairview Road and Sunflower Avenue.

In negotiations with the City Council last year, the company said the addition to their building would more than double the number of its employees in Costa Mesa from 1,135 to 2,509.

The Susan Street extension will open before Thanksgiving or the week after, said Bill Morris, public services manager for Costa Mesa.
