Pringle Chips In on Title Run, Wins CFL Award

Running back Mike Pringle, from Kennedy High, Thursday was named most outstanding player in the Canadian Football League.

Pringle, who led the CFL in rushing for the second year in a row, helped the Baltimore Stallions to a 15-3 record and the Southern Division title.

One year after he broke the CFL rushing record by gaining 1,972 yards, Pringle gained 1,791 yards and scored 13 touchdowns.

He also ended the four-year run of Calgary quarterback Doug Flutie as the CFL’s top player.

Pringle, who played at Cal State Fullerton, became the first player from an American-based team to win the award.

Cal Lutheran’s Aluede Okokherewas named most valuable player of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The junior forward from Lagos, Nigeria, led the Kingsmen with 49 points, 19 goals and 11 assists.

Goalkeeper Ryan Kaufman, midfielder Sebastian Alvarado and midfielder Edwin Astudillo were named to the All-SCIAC team.

Forward Jan Hammervold, forward Brian Collins and halfback Kyle Thompson were named to the second team.
