SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Following up on a tip from a road crew worker in the Angeles National Forest, Hermosa Beach police detectives Tuesday located photographs and an appointment book believed to belong to a 27-year-old model missing since Thursday.

An unidentified man who was performing community service on a portion of Angeles Crest Highway in the mountains above Altadena discovered an unspecified number of photographs of Linda Sobek and the appointment book early Tuesday, Sgt. Paul Wolcott said.

An unnamed source in the Police Department said the photographs appeared similar to the type Sobek carried with her for meetings with prospective employers.

Investigators retrieved the items about 10:50 a.m., Wolcott said.

Hermosa Beach police officials also announced Tuesday that they have asked the FBI for help on the case, specifically in locating witnesses outside the Southern California area.

Wolcott would not comment on whether investigators have leads on any such witnesses.

Meanwhile, three teams of detectives continued to follow up on roughly 200 tips that have poured in to the police station since it was widely publicized that the former Los Angeles Raiders cheerleader was missing.

Sobek was last heard from about 10:45 a.m. Thursday when she cut short a telephone call from her mother with news that she was late for a photo shoot that none of her friends or roommates knew about.

Police have zeroed in on the mysterious appointment as a possible lead to Sobek’s whereabouts because she has been described as a reliable person who keeps friends and relatives regularly informed of her comings and goings.

Sobek is described as white; 5 feet, four inches tall, 105 pounds, with blue eyes and shoulder-length blond hair. Her car is also missing and has been described as a white Nissan 240 SX sport coupe with the license plate 2ZOL713.

Anyone with information about Sobek’s whereabouts is asked to call (310) 318-0360.
