15 Hurt in School Bus Mishap
Fifteen elementary school students suffered minor injuries Tuesday when the driver of their school bus slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting a dog, officials said.
The animal darted in front of the Los Angeles Unified School District bus about 9 a.m. as the bus approached the intersection of Sunland Boulevard and Wheatland Avenue, Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Jan Bernard said.
The driver hit the brakes and 15 of her passengers, ages 8 to 10, hit the seats in front of them, Bernard said. They were treated at nearby hospitals for minor injuries.
The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was not hurt. Bernard said there did not appear to be seat belts for the children in the bus.
