Water Polo
Doria Araujo came to Golden West from Sao Paulo and was one of the team’s top performers. He scored a team-high 99 goals, including the most important goal of the season for the Rustlers, who won their seventh consecutive State title Saturday. He scored with 37 seconds left in overtime to give Golden West a 12-11 victory over Grossmont. Doria Araujo had six goals in the title game and four in a 12-11 semifinal victory over Citrus.
Cross-Country
Adalberto Sanchez
* Saddleback, freshman. Sanchez finished third in the State meet Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno.
Beth Rosen
Golden West, Freshman
Volleyball/Setter
Rosen, from Santa Cruz Harbor High, has been outstanding all season as the Rustlers’ setter. She had 85 assists and 20 digs as Golden West, under Coach Albert Gasparian, won twice last week to complete Orange Empire Conference play at 12-0. Golden West beat Rancho Santiago in three games and Fullerton in four. Rosen had 844 assists and 124 digs in the regular season as Golden West, top-ranked in the state, went 19-2.
Soccer
Shellie Bradbury
* Orange Coast, Freshman. Bradbury, from Newport Harbor High, keyed the Pirates’ defense that shut out Fullerton, 2-0, and Cypress, 1-0.
