NON-TURKEY THANKS: It was the big bird for most on Thanksgiving--except, of course, for vegetarians. . . . Many of those will celebrate Thanksgiving today when the Vegetarian Society of Orange County puts on its holiday dinner at The Stand, 238 Thalia St. in Laguna Beach. The menu includes sprout salad, lentil soup and vegetables with ginger tamari sauce and a guacamole topping. . . . It’s $8.95--but bring your own utensils, cup, napkin and chair. There’s a group walk on the beach to follow.

MOVING ON: The O.J. Simpson trial over, Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti has RSVP’d to appear at tonight’s black-tie gala at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Dana Point. It’s to benefit the Interval House, a group of local shelters for battered women and children. . . . Shelter Executive Director Carol Williams applauds Garcetti’s interest in domestic violence issues. He has vowed not to let budget woes force him to cut back on domestic violence prosecutors.

ON LOCATION: Laguna Hills writer William Gordon, author of “The Ultimate Hollywood Tour Book,” spent a year researching “Shot on This Site,” his new traveler’s guide to nearly 1,000 movie and TV locations. The most popular? The baseball field in “Field of Dreams” on a farm near Dyersville, Iowa, which draws more than 40,000 visitors a year. . . . Its appeal, says Gordon, “is elusive. It reminds me of ‘Close Encounters,’ where people are drawn to this mountain and just don’t know why.”

HEARTS & FLOWERS: What do you do for an encore after a heart transplant? Bobby Perry, 57, of Santa Ana proposed marriage--from his UCLA Medical Center bed. “I wanted to make sure I was going to make it first,” says Perry. Shocked girlfriend Patti Smith happily said yes. . . . Perry, whose field is electronic components, recently spent 60 days in the hospital before getting his transplant. After the operation, he was told he could stay for more tests or go home for a while. “I went straight home,” he says.
