‘My Antonia’

This loving and faithful adaptation of the Willa Cather novel, which first aired last March on the USA Network, dramatizes the bond between a tentative farm boy (Neil Patrick Harris) and a spirited Bohemian immigrant girl (Elina Lowensohn, pictured) in 1890s Nebraska. Harris plays an orphaned 14-year-old Virginia boy who arrives on the Nebraska plain with grandparents (Jason Robards and Eva Marie Saint) who are strangers to him. Almost immediately the shy youth is bedazzled by the vivacious 15-year-old Antonia, his neighbor. The almost incommunicable bond that develops between them is the bittersweet heart of the story, which has a timeless undercurrent in its depiction of discrimination toward immigrants (USA Wednesday at 9 p.m.).
