COUNTYWIDE : Ventura Metrolink Ridership Dips

Share

The number of passengers on the Ventura Metrolink commuter rail line dropped slightly in November, a dip in ridership that Ventura County Transportation Commission administrators attribute to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Executive Director Ginger Gherardi told commissioners last week that the Ventura line, which operates between Oxnard and Downtown Los Angeles, lured about 2,700 riders a day. But no comparative ridership figures for previous months or years were made available to the panel.

The trains, however, are running closer to schedule, Gherardi said.

According to monthly figures, 98% of the inbound trains were on time, and 95% of the outbound trains were on schedule, she said. Again, no comparative numbers were provided to commissioners.

The agency is launching some new promotions to boost Metrolink ridership, Gherardi said.

Passengers holding monthly ridership cards will be allowed to bring along up to three people for free when they ride the trains during the week between Christmas and News Year’s Day.

Also, the agency is planning a special Saturday holiday train to and from Los Angeles on Dec. 9.

Next month, the commission plans to place train-shaped advertisements on the doors of more than 5,000 residences in Camarillo. The brochures will provide residents with information on Metrolink.
