Raiders fans who are pigs: They’re potbellied pigs, actually.

The silver-and-black oinkers, named Harry and Sally, are owned by Mark Davis, son of the Oakland Raiders owner. The younger Davis is planning to move to Oakland, but he had to take care of one problem first: the pigs were dangerously overweight.

So he took them to Kathy Ward of Potbelly Pig Rescue in Northridge.

Ward put them on a diet of nothing but fruits, vegetables and alfalfa and forced them to exercise. It took six months but Harry went from about 270 to 120 pounds and Sally retained her girlish figure by reducing from 240 to 90.

As with humans, the porkers went through some personality changes.

“Sally was totally dependent on Harry at the start,” Ward said. “She’d just follow him around everywhere. But after she lost a lot of weight, she found she didn’t need him so much. She made friends with other pigs here. It was like Archie and Edith Bunker. Harry had trouble accepting it at first. He was a real male chauvinist pig.”

WHERE DOES THE OWNER THINK HE IS--HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD?A couple of our colleagues were walking down 1st Street in Little Tokyo at noontime when they noticed a video shop that was playing a Japanese soft-porn movie on a big TV set in the front window. They said it was boring--and overlong at more than two hours.

CAN’T BEAT THE PRICE, THOUGH: We’ve heard of some unusual approaches by real estate agents. But Edward Conklin of Manhattan Beach found an especially strange “for sale” ad in a South Bay real estate publication.

A DAY LIKE ALL DAYS: Today’s date reminds us of a story about a newsboy whose turf was Pershing Square before World War II. He was in his 40s--individuals who sold newspapers on foot were called newsboys regardless of their age. And he was somewhat slow-witted. But he worked tirelessly to attract the attention of passersby. He would shout the same headline--”HE KILLED HER ‘CAUSE HE LOVED HER”--day after day. The actual murder apparently had helped him sell many newspapers, so he decided to stick with it.

Then came the Pearl Harbor bombing. The other newsboys wondered if he would depart from his formula. A couple walked over to check. As they neared him, they could hear his voice ringing out:

“HE KILLED HER ‘CAUSE HE LOVED HER.”

miscelLAny:

“The End of the Age” is a “Christian thriller” by televangelist Pat Robertson about a giant meteor that strikes off the coast of California. The catastrophe, which is set in the year 2000 (a new millennium--get it?), leaves Greater L.A. under 5,000 feet of water. Imagine what an inconvenience that would be. For one thing, KCBS-TV’s Jerry Dunphy would have to change his sign-on to: “From the sea to the sea to all of sunken California . . .”
