Pacific Coast Freeway Foiled
In the 1950s, state highway officials proposed a freeway from Long Beach through the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station, Newport Beach and on south.
The so-called Pacific Coast Freeway would have cut through Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach, whose residents protested the project so vehemently that it was finally taken off state planning maps.
